Last February 14, our company celebrated Heart’s Day by launching a more extensive wellness program, emphasizing personal wellness goals for its employees this fiscal year. Taking care of our hearts, literally. The program includes a subsidized blood chemistry fee to determine employees’ blood sugar and cholesterol levels, a series of seminars and consultation with certified nutritionist dietitians from Intellicare and Nestlé (which I really appreciate, and hope other people will have the same chance to sit in because the information is indeed an eye-opener), Biggest Loser/Gainer Challenge (because being healthy does not only involve losing some pounds but, sometimes, gaining more), and free various workout sessions at Slimmer’s World.

My BMI and bloog sugar level results fit the bill. My cholesterol level, however, does not even reach the normal range (between 140mg/dL to 200mg/dL). What a shame. A few days after I got my digits, I was invited to join the Biggest Gainer Challenge. So, does that give me the license to indulge a bit in french fries, avocado shake, and barbeque pork spareribs? Well, for a fair prize, my diet plan is open for modification. ![]()

From the daily wellness sessions, I’ve learned that Wendy’s has been considered (again) the healthiest fast food chain alternative. That Mcdo has committed to a healthier cooking method. That C2 Green Tea is still the beverage with the lowest sugar in town. That iced tea is one hell of a sugar-loaded drink. That brown bread and brown sugar do not always imply “low calories”. That at age 25, our metabolism begins to slow down, and we all lose nerve cells. That around 35, we start to lose bone density. That you can delay aging and hereditary illnesses significantly by a balanced diet backed up with a regular exercise. That you have to finish your medicine (when the doctor says you have to take the prescription in 7 days, and you already feel better within 3 days of treatment, you still owe yourself 4 more days to build up your strength).

I had my first kickboxing session last Tuesday. It was a one-hour total body workout, which I enjoyed thank you very much. I don’t perspire and pant that much when I jog for an hour. It is very tempting to go back this week. I’m just quite anxious of the location, hehe. The building is kinda old, has a narrow (but tidy) hallway, and its gym is situated at the topmost floor, which you can only access by riding a small elevator up to the 27th floor then using the stairs to reach its lobby.
